Tell your story. Do not spend anyone else's.
Untold works because the people writing here are telling the truth about their own lives. Almost everything below follows from that one sentence. These rules are enforced on the server, not just asked for politely in a form.
01What belongs here
First-person writing about your own experience: family, grief, friendship, work, money, migration, illness, the things you got wrong. Fiction is welcome when it is clearly written as fiction and does not borrow a real person's life.
Length is not a rule. A four-line piece about a doorbell can sit next to a two-thousand-word piece about a parent, and neither is more welcome. What matters is that it is yours and that it is true as you experienced it.
02What is removed
These are not preferences. Content in these categories is removed.
- Someone else's identifying details. Names, faces, workplaces, addresses, phone numbers, usernames, or enough specific detail that a reader in the same city could work out who you mean. If the story needs a real person in it, describe them in a way that protects them.
- Anything that identifies you. You are anonymous here. Posting your own contact details or a photo of your face ends that, for you and for anyone in the story.
- Threats and incitement. No exceptions, no context that makes it fine.
- Sexual content involving minors. Reported onward, not merely removed.
- Hate directed at people for who they are.
- Someone else's unpublished writing. If you did not write it and it is not public, it does not go here.
- Advertising, SEO filler and link farming.
03What happens between submit and publish
Every submission is read by an editor before it can appear publicly. Nothing is published automatically, and no story goes live because a queue was empty.
Editors do not rewrite your piece. They either publish it, hold it while they ask you to change something, or decline it. Declining is not permanent — a removed story can be revised and submitted again.
04Notes and replies
Notes under a story are for the story, not for the author's character. One level of reply, no pile-ons. A note can be edited for 15 minutes after posting, then it is fixed. You can remove your own note at any time.
If a note is held for review it will tell you so and keep your text. Reading is never blocked by a discussion being closed.
05Reporting
Every story and every note has a report control. Reports go to the editorial queue with the reason you chose. Reporting is not a vote: five reports on a piece that breaks no rule change nothing, and one report of a genuine threat gets acted on.
The reasons available are exactly these:
- Threat
- A threat of violence against a person or group.
- Identifying a private person
- Names, handles, photos or details that identify someone who did not choose to be in the story.
- Private information
- Phone numbers, addresses, workplaces, medical details, screenshots of private messages.
- Harassment
- Targeted attacks, pile-ons, or content whose purpose is to humiliate a specific person.
- Hate
- Content attacking people for who they are.
- Sexual content
- Sexual material, or any sexual content involving minors.
- Spam
- Advertising, link farming, or the same text posted repeatedly.
- Impersonation
- Presenting someone else's writing, or a real person's voice, as your own.
06What happens to the person
Removal is about the content first. A first removal usually teaches rather than punishes: the writer keeps reading and writing, and may be rate-limited for a period. Repeated or serious violations escalate to a block on the device identity, which ends the ability to write or reply from that device.
There is no appeal form and no account to reinstate. If you believe a decision was wrong, write to safety@confessit.lol and a person will read it.
07The short version
Write your own life. Leave other people's names out of it. Do not threaten anyone. If a piece cannot survive those three, it is not a moderation problem — it is a different piece that has not been written yet.
Who to write to
- safety@confessit.lolUrgent: a threat or an exposed private person
- hello@confessit.lolA moderation decision you want re-read
- privacy@confessit.lolRemoval of your own data
